American Pharoah favored in Haskell
On Sunday, American Pharoah will race for the first time since capturing the Triple Crown last month. And, unsurprisingly, the famed 3-yearold colt will be the overwhelming favorite.
Thursday’s draw for the $1.75 million William Hill Haskell Invitational landed American Pharoah in the No. 4 post position and a 1-5 favorite. The next closest horse is Competitive Edge, which has 8-1 odds of winning the 11/8-mile race at Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport, N.J.
Last month, American Pharoah became the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 to win the Triple Crown.
American Pharoah had been training in California before making the cross-country trip to Atlantic City on Wednesday. He arrived at Monmouth Park with a police escort Wednesday afternoon. Early Thursday, hundreds of track workers crowded the backstretch to watch the horse go for a brief gallop.
He is expected to gallop between 7:30-7:50 a.m. today and Saturday.
