Police seeking public input on accreditation

- CAROLYN CUNNINGHAM

The Kennesaw Police Department will be collecting public comments on Monday and Tuesday to help achieve accreditation by verifying it meets professional standards.

Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. (CALEA), the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and residents are invited to offer comments at a public information session at 3:30 p.m. Monday in the Council Chambers, 2529 J.O. Stephenson Ave., Kennesaw.

Agency employees and the public also are invited to offer comments by calling 404-8664540, beginning at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Comments will be taken by the assessment team at both events.

Telephone comments, as well as appearances at the public information session, are limited to 10 minutes and must address the police department’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards.

Information: Sgt. Brice A. Barth, 770-422-2505, ext. 3039.

Copies of the standards are available at Kennesaw Police Department Headquarters, 2539 J.O. Stephenson Ave.

Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the department’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to: The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc., 13575 Heathcote Blvd., Suite 320, Gainesville, VA 20155 or email calea@calea.org.
