Get royal red carpet out for Lord Spencer
Charles Spencer, brother of the late Diana, Princess of Wales, uncle of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and great-uncle of those two royal cuties Prince George of Cambridge and Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, is hopping across the pond to promote his new book, “Killers of the King: The Men Who Dared to Execute Charles I” (Bloomsbury Press, $30). (The unpleasantness chronicled in his book took place in 1649.)
Charles, Ninth Earl Spencer, as he is properly addressed, will sign the book and discuss his ancestral estate, Althorp, the home to 19 generations of the Spencer family, from 6-8 p.m. Aug. 11 at Mathews Furniture + Design, 1240 W. Paces Ferry Road in Buckhead.
A portion of proceeds will benefit the Proia Dance Project. Event sponsors include Mathews Furniture + Design, Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles magazine and Sean O’Keefe Events.
Oh, and lest you create an international incident, here’s a helpful etiquette primer, courtesy of the event planners: “Upon introducing someone to Earl Spencer, Charles Spencer use Earl Spencer. From that point forward, you may address him as Lord Spencer.”
Queen Latifah joins cast for ‘Miracles’
Speaking of royalty, Her Majesty Queen Latifah has joined the cast of “Miracles From Heaven.” She and Jennifer Garner filmed scenes for the faith-based movie in downtown Atlanta the other day.
The movie is based on the book “Three Miracles From Heaven” by Christy Beam. It’s about a young girl miraculously cured of a serious ailment.
Garner and the Queen have each filmed in metro Atlanta before. Garner shot “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” here and Latifah filmed “Joyful Noise,” “Bessie” and the “Steel Magnolias” remake, directed by Kenny Leon, here. She also served as a producer for the VH1 series “Single Ladies.”
Leon and Latifah are about to work together again: His live TV version of “The Wiz” will star her as the title character in “The Wiz Live!” while Mary J. Blige will portray Evillene, the Wicked Witch of the West, according to EW.com.
A previous casting announcement unveiled Stephanie Mills — who played Dorothy in the original Broadway production of “The Wiz” — as Auntie Em in this NBC version, which will air Dec. 3.
No word yet on who will portray Dorothy.
