Month’s deals go beyond Labor Day

Bargain hunters have a lot to look forward to this month with Labor Day, the end of summer and back-to-school.

Kick off the shopping with Labor Day sales, which traditionally include deals on large appliances, according to the deal trackers at Dealnews. Though these deals will be better during Black Friday in November, you can find discounts of about 54 percent off items such as dishwashers, refrigerators and more.

Last month, mattresses deals at Overstock and Sears were as high as 50 percent off. Stackable coupons added an extra 10 percent to 40 percent off the sale price, according to Dealnews experts.

Labor Day also signals the end of summer shopping season, and it is a great time to invest in all things related to summer. That includes swimwear and other summer apparel as well as outdoor items. Expect to see all of these goods at the lowest prices of the year from retailers including the Gap, REI and Puma.

Some of the best sales will go up to 65 percent off. Designer apparel may have even higher discounts at up to 86 percent off.

Deals on other summer gear will include grills and grill accessories at stores like Sears and Target and on brands like Kenmore, Weber and La Hacienda.

Last year, Dealnews tracked grilling equipment at up to 75 percent off at Sur La Table. Patio furniture rang up as much as 50 percent off from Target and other retailers. Be sure to check for discounts on outdoor tools and equipment like leaf blowers and garden

supplies.

Flowers and plants are also among the bargains as nurseries clear old inventory before cold weather arrives.

Look for buy-one get-one free deals, says Credit Donkey founder Charles Tran, who notes that September is a great time to plant perennials in Georgia.

Shoppers in the market for technology will want to look for deals on the previous generations of Apple’s iPhone and iPad as newer models will hit soon.

According to Dealnews data archives, the most discounted iPad to date has been the iPad Air 2, going as low as $359 this summer.

Purchase laptops early in the month when backto-school sales are still active.

As for HDTVs, wait until the best deals arrive in November, unless you are looking for a 32-inch screen, which may have solid discounts in Sep- tember.

Start shopping now for major jewelry purchases, says Tran. The best deals typically happen during non-gift buying months.

And if you’re planning to buy a new car, start looking. Labor Day weekend may bring clearance prices on the previous model years with discounts of up to $2,500 off, he says.

Never aim for the newest cars on the lot. Plan to wait until the last two weeks of December to consider cars from the newest model year.
