Man loses job after Facebook post

Social media cost a local man his job after a photo he posted online of himself and a co-worker’s 3-year-old son, Cayden, became a target for racist trolls.

And it cost Cayden’s mother, Sydney Shelton, her privacy, and her son his innocence.

That image is a selfie posted last month on Facebook by Gerod Roth, who at the time was a co-worker of Shelton’s at Polaris Marketing Group, an Atlantabas­ed firm.

The photo, which shows little Cayden, who is black, standing behind Roth, who is white, drew a torrent of racist and bigoted comments from Roth’s friends and followers, some of whom likened Cayden to a slave. When he initially posted the photo, Roth didn’t actually comment.

But in response to someone asking, “Dude where the hell did you get a black kid??” Roth responded: “He was feral.” Polaris fired Roth. Read the entire story: onajc.com/facebookfi­ring
