VW air bag may fail
What: Volkswagen 2010-2014 Volkswagen CC and Passat; 2010-2013 Eos; 2011-2014 Golf, GTI, Jetta and Tiguan; 20122014 Jetta Sportwagen
Why: In the affected vehicles, debris may contaminate the air bag clock spring that keeps the air bag powered while the steering wheel is be- ing turned. This contamination may cause a loss of electrical connection to the driver’s frontal air bag, preventing the air bag from deploying in the event of a vehicle crash, increasing the risk of injury.
What to do: Volkswagen will notify owners, and dealers will install a cover to prevent clockspring contamination. Any clockspring that fails prior to the cover installation will be replaced. These repairs will be performed for free. Interim notices were mailed to owners on Sept. 25, 2015. Owners will receive a second notice when parts become available in early 2016. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 800-822-8987.
