DeGrom may miss start

Mets righty will have another bullpen session Sunday.

Jacob deGrom (sore right lat) is unlikely to make his scheduled start Tuesday against the Phillies, but the Mets right-hander will throw a bullpen session Sunday.

DeGrom threw a lighter, 25-pitch side session Friday instead of a full bullpen session at the team’s complex in Port St. Lucie, Fla., and the team will likely have to decide Sunday whether or not to place him on the disabled list. DeGrom last pitched the home opener April 8 against the Phillies.

“He’s a big piece to the puzzle and so he needs to get a little bit more of a full pen to get a determination where he’s at,” manager Terry Collins said.

Collins said Logan Verrett is slotted for Tuesday if deGrom doesn’t start.

Rockies: Catcher Nick Hundley missed his second straight game Friday since taking a ball off his mask, but did hit before the game.

■ Center fielder Charlie Blackmon, wearing a walking boot on his left foot, said he would be ready in 15 days after being placed on the DL Thursday with turf toe.

Red Sox: Catcher Christian Vazquez is back from his injury rehab assignment. Vazquez, 25, missed all of last season after undergoing elbow reconstructive surgery. Also, catcher Blake Swihart was sent to Triple-A Pawtucket.

■ Third baseman Pablo Sandoval, who is on the 15-day DL, will see orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews on Monday for a second opinion on his strained left shoulder.

Astros: The team installed new LED lights at Minute Maid Park during the offseason. The new lights have caused some issues for right fielder George Springer already this season as he lost a ball in the lights during an exhibition and a ball in Thursday’s loss. “They’re tough,” Springer said. “It’s bright, it’s not easy to see the ball.”

Diamondbacks: Their starting rotation is 0-6 with a 6.18 ERA through the team’s first 10 games.

Cubs: Manager Joe Maddon said he shared a glass of wine with infielder Munenori Kawasaki on Thursday night as he told him he was headed to Triple-A Iowa to make room for infielder Javier Baez, who came off the disabled list. “It was a very warm moment,” Maddon said. “It was also a very tasty moment.”

Noteworthy: Jim Leyland, who led the Marlins to the 1997 World Series title, will manage the U.S. team at the 2017 World Baseball Classic. Leyland will be making his international coaching debut in the tournament.
