Stylish storage makes room for organization

Toys, books and other kids’ items can be difficult to keep organized, especially in bedrooms and playrooms. Storage containers keep living spaces clean and organized while adding personality to rooms.

Some options allow visibility with open shelves, while others keep the mess tucked behind doors and enclosed bins. A few designers have also created storage solutions inspired by childhood memories.

These six products give living space a unique, organized charm while also keeping the room tidy. The storage items are available through online retailers and in some stores.

1. The Pandan bins from Serena and Lily are made from handwoven palm fronds. They measure 11.5 by 11.5 inches and are available in a variety of colors such as metallic, natural beige and pomegranate. A contrasting trim borders the side handles and the top of the bin ($38, serenaandlily.com).

2. Brighten your kids’ playroom or bedroom with an IKEA’s STUVA storage system. A combination of doors and low drawers make organized storage more accessible to children. Corners are rounded and have smooth edges. The storage unit is about 50 inches high by 19 inches wide and comes in hues such as green, pink and black ($125, ikea.com).

3. The Tot Tutors Modern Classics Book Rack has deep nylon fabric pockets that books and magazines can rest against, while also keeping the covers visible.

4. Designers and stylists Emily Current and Meritt Elliot bring playful appeal to the Emily and Meritt Cat Hamper. The 3-D cat includes whiskers, a nose and ears on the lid. The nearly 24-inch-tall hamper is made of 90 percent bamboo ($129, potterybarnkids.com).

5. Add schoolroom style to your laundry room or foyer with the Revolving Coat

Locker, designed by Jonti-Craft. There are five open sections in the locker. Items such as umbrellas and backpacks can hang on the hooks, and shoes and hats can sit in the cubbies. The locker weighs about 86 pounds and is 24 inches in diameter ($324.95, wayfair.com).

6. Pennsylvania designer Bill Eastburn was inspired by bins in old five-and-dime stores when he designed Storagepalooza for The Land of Nod. The single Storagepaloozas are painted white, tomato red, espresso and several other colors. The interior of the bins are about 16 inches wide, and up to three bins can be stacked ($99 for a single Storagepalooza, landofnod.com).
