The motorist who hit and injured three children Friday evening in Atlanta is facing DUI drugs and other charges, Atlanta police said Saturday.

Ryan Lisabeth, 28, also is facing charges of serious injury by vehicle (three counts), reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the road, and possession of a controlled substance, an Atlanta police spokeswoman said in an email.

Two of the children were in critical condition Saturday at Children’s Hospital at Egleston, police said. The accident happened while they were walking on a sidewalk on Joseph E. Boone Boulevard, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.

The third child’s condition was described as low, police said.

Lisabeth struck a passing vehicle on the rear as Lisabeth crossed the center line, police said. Then he drove onto the sidewalk where the children were standing and talking. The suspect hit the children, then drove on and hit another vehicle before the vehicle came to an uncontrolled stop, police said.

Lisabeth was transported to Grady detention due to his suspected drug use and the vehicle collision, police said. He later was booked into the Fulton County jail.

The suspect also was booked into the Fulton County jail on heroin possession charges in 2011 and 2013, according to jail records. Also, Lisabeth was jailed in Fulton County in 2012 on charges of driving with a suspended/revoked license, records show.
