Former 96.1 duo Scotty Kay, Bret Mega moving to Dallas

New show to debut Aug. 15 on HOT 93.3.

Scotty Kay and his producer Bret Mega, who were inexplicably cut by Power 96.1 earlier this year despite record ratings, have found a new gig at HOT 93.3 in Dallas.

They were on air in Atlanta for two years with Riley Couture, who remains with a new guy named PK.

The new show is scheduled to debut Aug. 15. Mega now gets his names in lights so this is an effective promotion for him.

On Facebook, Scotty Kay announced:

Dan Bennett, regional vice president of Cumulus Media-Dallas and Houston, said in a press release: “It isn’t often you can find proven ratings talent that is available immediately. When we saw this opportunity, the decision was easy.”

Dustin Kross, program director at HOT 93.3, added: “After their huge ratings success and social media success in Atlanta, I knew they would be the perfect fit for HOT 93.3 in Dallas/Fort Worth.”

HOT 93.3 gets only a fraction of the ratings of the lead top 40 station in Dallas KHKS (Kiss 106.1). In the June ratings, HOT tied for 25th with a 1.3 rating vs. a 5.9 for the more established Kiss.

The pair will be competing with the Bert Show — again. The Bert Show’s largest market is Dallas, where the syndicated show is heard on 102.9 Now. They will also be up against Bert Weiss’ former show, the team that was once led by the late Kidd Kraddock on Kiss you can see daily on “Dish Nation.”

Atlanta-based Cumulus owns HOT and it has not been consistent formatically. It has been a top 40 station since November though it has been that format before under different monikers.

Scotty Kay, a former professional dancer, also goes by Scotty K.

The pair was let go in February. In January, their final full month in town, the show finished fifth place overall, according to Nielsen Audio ratings data. Among 18- to 34-year-olds, Scotty K and Riley finished second with an 8.5 share behind only the Bert Show on Q100 (9.7), beating Ryan Cameron and Wanda Smith on V-103 (8.2) and Rickey Smiley on HOT 107.9 (7.4).

Those are not typically numbers that would cause anyone to be let go. IHeartMedia, which owns Power, never offered an explanation for the head-scratching move.
