City OKs CVS package license, youth training lab

The Jonesboro City Council approved a conditiona­l use permit during the regular meeting last week. The permit was to allow a profession­al computer training facility for young people at property located at 184 North Ave., Suite 106. The council also approved a license to sell package beer and wine at the new CVS located at 8139 Tara Boulevard.

Another agenda item was discussed but not acted upon. Patricia Thompson filed a zoning appeal on behalf of Touched by an Angel Beauty Salon LLC, located at 151 North Main St. Although a motion was made to approve Thompson’s appeal, the motion was not seconded, therefore the item was not approved or denied, and the council moved

New driver’s license office open

The Georgia Department of Driver Services has opened its new Fayette County office at 749 W. Lanier Avenue, Suite 102, on the north side of Ga. Hwy. 54 between Gingercake Road and Grady Avenue.

The former site at the corner of McDonough Road and McElroy Road has been closed. The new larger and more computeriz­ed office is open 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 8 a.m.-noon on Saturday. Forms, informatio­n and some related services for obtaining or renewing a driver’s license are available at www. dds.ga.gov.
