Q: There has been a lot of media chatter that customers are booking events at the newly opened Trump International Hotel in the Old Post Office building in D.C. to win favor with Donald Trump. Isn’t this property actually owned by the federal government? —Mark Turcotte, Atlanta

A: Trump signed a 60-year lease in 2013 — at $3 million a year — with the federal government on the building that houses the Trump International Hotel in Washington.

The Old Post Office Pavilion is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Washington Post reported that the National Park Service will remain in charge of the clock tower, one of the tallest structures in Washington.

The Trump Organization has to pay taxes on the building, which opened in 1899.

The hotel had a soft opening in September and Trump attended the ribbon cutting in October.
