Internet car sale scam costs man $31,000

-

An Auburn man was scammed out of more than $31,000 while attempting to purchase a car from an out-of-state dealer over the internet, Gwinnett County police said.

On Nov. 3, the man wired $31,400 to a BB&T account at the direction of the seller to buy a 2013 Infinity QX56, police said. The hopeful car owner expected delivery within the week, but the seller stopped communicating.

A fake identity was used to open an account and withdraw the wired funds.

Several withdrawals were made at BB&T banks in the metro Atlanta area, including one on Braselton Highway in Dacula.
