Recycling center closed March 8 for yard debris
Peachtree City’s main recycling center will be closed March 8 so an on-site contractor can grind yard debris and tree limbs. The recycling center next to the Public Works building on McIntosh Trail will be open as usual all week for paper, plastic, newspapers, glass, aluminum and cardboard recycling, but does not accept yard waste.
The Rockaway Road location will re-open at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. For details about hours and what is accepted at each location, go to www.peachtree-city. org/recycle.

Groundbreaking for new development is Friday
The long awaited groundbreaking ceremony for Avondale Estates’ first modern mixed-use development is 11 a.m. Friday at 2718 East College Ave.
South City Partners has planned a four-story project including 197 apartments, 8,000 square feet of retail/restaurant space and a gateway park that’ll be approximately one acre.
The three-acre project is vital for the city on several fronts. It will mark the official western gateway to Avondale Estates, and city officials hope it will spearhead further development within the downtown business district. Indeed, it appears that Avila Real Estate, which owns 15 acres in Avondale, including the old Fenner Dunlop property, is beginning to stir.
Since closing on the College/ Sams Crossing property in January, South City has already demolished three buildings and scooped out a foundation, likely for a parking deck behind the apartments.
