Golovkin earns close decision over Jacobs
Unbeaten Gennady Golovkin (37-0) outlasted Danny Jacobs in an exhaust- ing 12-round defense of his middleweight titles Saturday night in New York.
Golovkin won 115-112 on two judges’ cards and 114113 on the other.

Football: Former San Francicos 49ers receiver Dwight Clark, who gave the Bay Area one of its most iconic sports moments with “The Catch” in 1982, announced his battle with ALS in a blog post. Clark, 60, was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in late 2015, he wrote, after visits to six neurologists and three ALS specialists.
College hockey: Denver was seeded No. 1 in the NCAA’s Division I men’s tournament that begins Saturday. The other No. 1 seeds in the 16-team field: Minnesota-Duluth, Harvard and Minnesota. The Frozen Four semifinals are April 6 in Chicago and the championship game there is April 8.
College wrestling: Penn State won its sixth title in seven years Saturday night in St. Louis. The Nittany Lions won five individual championships. They finished with 146.5 points.
Ohio State (110) was second, Oklahoma State third (103) and Iowa fourth (97).
This marked the 11th straight national title for the Big Ten Conference.
Skiing: Eric Frenzel wrapped up an unprecedented fifth straight Nordic combined World Cup title Sunday in Schonach, Germany, with his 10th win of the season.
NHRA: John Force, a 16-time champion, won the Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla., on Sunday for the first time since 2001.
