Agency spokesman Erik Burton said the shooting happened about 4:30 p.m.

The West Lake station is just north of I-20 on the the blue rail line west of downtown.

Relatives of the shooting victim who died identified him as 29-year-old Zachariah Honeycutt, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Passengers on the train were removed and the suspect is in custody, Burton said.

Two men and a woman were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and are in stable condition, according to officials.

A fifth person was injured in the panic but was not hit by gunfire.

The West Lake station reopened at 8 p.m. after being closed because of the shooting. During that time, buses carried passengers between the Hamilton E. Holmes and Ashby stations.

Police have not released the name of the suspect. He is in his 30s, Channel 2 reported.

Police caught him as he tripped and fell trying to escape.

Dunham vowed that MARTA would increase the number of officers on the system starting today.
