Marshall to play 2 more seasons

-

Brandon Marshall has yet to play one game for the Giants, but he has already decided what his last game will be for them.

On stage at last week’s Health & Fitness Expo at MetLife Stadium, the 33-yearold wide receiver said he plans to play out the twoyear contract he signed with the team this offseason and then retire.

“I’m going to play two more years,” he said. “That’s the first time I’ve said that. Two more years and I’m gone.”

Marshall said his post-football life will be dedicated to issues regarding mental health. Marshall was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder in 2011.

That hasn’t stopped him from having a distinguished career thus far, including the past two seasons with the Jets in which he averaged 84 catches and 1,145 yards. The one thing that has eluded him, though, has been a playoff appearance (not to mention, obviously, a Super Bowl) and Marshall made it clear when he signed with the Giants that he planned to rectify that.

One of the reasons Marshall is optimistic that can happen is the quarterback he is now working with. While much of the focus recently has been gathered on Eli Manning’s potential replacement, Marshall is impressed by the quarterback’s present.

“This guy is just phenomenal,” Marshall said of working with Manning during the Giants’ offseason program. “The way he brings guys together, he galvanized the group. I’m fortunate to be able to go out with a quarterback like Eli.”

The Giants will be Marshall’s fifth team in his NFL career.

Lacy’s garage sale for charity a huge hit

Eddie Lacy may be gone from the Packers, but he left a nice legacy in his wake.

The running back launched a two-day garage sale at his home in suburban Green Bay last week and it was basically sold out before dinner. T-shirts, unused Under Armour cleats, Packers hoodies and more — all gone in a matter of hours.

Lacy said he is donating 100 percent of the proceeds to Freedom House in Green Bay, which serves area families in need of housing.

Lacy, a star in college at Alabama, spent his first four seasons with the Packers and rushed for 3,435 yards and 23 touchdowns. He signed with the Seahawks as a free agent during the offseason.

Cover your ears

Quickie scouting report on defensive back Mike Tyson, the Seahawks’ sixth-round draft pick:

■ Tyson doesn’t care about stats - he just wants a ring.

■ He’s trying to break a bad habit of biting on double moves.

■ Tyson’s new Seattle teammates, not taking any chances, plan to keep their helmets on for a while.

Speed trap

San Francisco is naming a street Montana-Clark Drive in honor of “The Catch” made by the 49ers’ Dwight Clark in 1981 vs. the Cowboys. “When they put the sign up they’ll have to lower the speed limit,” noted Hall of Fame QB Joe Montana, “because everyone knows Dwight wasn’t very fast.”
