Three school officials earn appointments

-

A new principal and two new assistant superintendents have been appointed to posts in Gwinnett County Public Schools.

Grelauris Calcaño has been named the new principal of Lawrenceville Elementary School. Calcaño is being promoted from her current position as assistant principal of Rockbridge Elementary School, a job she’s held since 2012. She’s currently completing a doctoral degree in educational leadership and policy at the University of Georgia.

Terry Watlington and Donna Ledford have been named assistant superintendents for elementary schools. Watlington has been a principal at Gwinnett County elementary schools for 11 years, working at Kanoheda Elementary School for five years and Norton Elementary School for six years. Watlington also served as chief of staff for Fulton County Schools for 3 years.

Ledford has been principal of Starling Elementary School since 2009. She was previously principal of Magill Elementary School and Stripling Elementary School and has been an administrator in Gwinnett County elementary schools since 1999.

All appointments are effective July 3.

Development authority seeks two members

The Braselton Downtown Development Authority seeks to fill two seats on the seven-member authority.

Established in 2009, Braselton’s DDA is an independent panel formed for the purposes of planning, organizing and financing projects to revitalize and redevelop the city’s commercial district. Bylaws require members to either be a resident property owner or an owner or manager of a downtown business.

Chairman Clay Eubanks said, “The ideal applicant for the DDA board must attend one board meeting per month plus devote up to about 10 hours per month to organizing and implementing projects and activities in downtown. Additionally, state law requires specific training for newly appointed DDA members in Georgia.”

The Braselton Town Council will make the official appointments with four-year terms beginning in July.
