District administration is reorganized
The next school superintendent in Clayton County is reorganizing the district administration, with four deputy superintendents who will alternate as second in command.
Morcease Beasley, a former DeKalb County School District administrator, was hired by Clayton County Public Schools last summer as chief improvement officer. This spring, after a nationwide search, the Clayton school board named him sole finalist for superintendent.
Beasley succeeds Luvenia Jackson, who became superintendent in 2014 with a contract through June 30. Beasley will be hiring. His new organization chart for the 54,000-student district shows eight vacant administrative positions.
Proposed FY2018 budget outlined
A special called meeting on Tuesday of the Fayette County Board of Commissioners included the first of two public hearings regarding the FY2018 operating budget.
Chief Financial Officer Mary Parrott outlined the $88.8 million operating budget, including $49.2 million for the general fund.
Taxes will account for 59.7 percent of general fund revenue; another 23.9 percent will come from the local option sales tax.
Salary and benefits for 724 fulltime and 41 part-time employees constitute 65 percent of the general fund expenditures.
The board will vote on the budget on June 22.
