A Georgia police officer is in jail after he allegedly assaulted his wife and held her against her will.

Deputies arrested Adairsville police Officer Nathan Henderson, 35, at his home in the 200 block of Jeep Street near Calhoun about 10:15 a.m. Tuesday after getting reports of an assault, according to the Gordon County Sheriff ’s Office.

Henderson faces misdemeanor simple battery and false imprisonment charges as well as a felony aggravated assault charge, according to jail records.

When deputies arrived, they found Henderson’s wife with torn clothes and visible injuries.

She told authorities her husband physically assaulted her and held her against her will for several hours, Sheriff Mitch Ralston said in a news release.

“The woman’s injuries were not life threatening,” Ralston said. “And detectives have reason to believe that alcohol played a part in this incident.”

The woman was able to escape from the house and call 911 at a neighbor’s home, authorities said.

Henderson initially refused to leave the house when deputies tried to arrest him, Ralston said. But a deputy convinced him to come outside.

Deputies learned Henderson is an Adairsville police officer after they spotted a marked patrol car on the property.

Detectives interviewed witnesses and collected physical evidence, according to the sheriff ’s office.
