1. Florida wins in CWS Finals: Brady Singer struck out a career-high 12 in seven innings, Jonathan India doubled in two runs and Florida beat LSU 4-3 in Game 1 of the College World Series finals Monday. The Gators need a win today or Wednesday to earn their first national title.

2. Collins flips on jersey number: Hawks’ firstround draft pick John Collins has said he intended to wear No. 0 in honor of another former Wake Forest player — Jeff Teague. But Collins’ mother, Lyria, wanted him to continue his college tradition and keep No. 20. There is also a family meaning involving Collins’ grandfathe­r, who recently passed away. “My mom really wanted me to continue everything from college to the NBA,” Collins said. “Mom wins. We get to add a two to the jersey.”

3. Local connection­s in NBA rookie teams: Atlanta was well represente­d on the NBA All-Rookie Team. Milwaukee Bucks guard Malcolm Brogdon (left) and Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown were named to the team, the NBA announced Monday. Brogdon, a graduate of Greater Atlanta Christian School, was unanimousl­y voted to the first team, while Brown, a graduate of Wheeler High School in Marietta, was named to the second team.

4. Auburn eagle grounded: Auburn’s golden eagle Nova won’t make the traditiona­l pregame flights at Jordan-Hare Stadium this season after a heart ailment was detected. Bald eagle Spirit will flyinstead.

5. Newton tests arm: Cam Newton is throwing again. The Panthers said Monday on Twitter that the NFL’s 2015 Most Valuable Player threw his first passes since surgery in March for a partially torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder.
