Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors and Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz lead the 2016-17 NBA All-Defensive first team, announced by the league Monday. Green received 99 out of a possible 100 first-team votes, and Gobert received 97.

Green was named the Defensive Player of the Year late Monday, ending Kawhi Leonard’s two-year reign.

Green was rewarded for his do-everything role with the NBA champions. Leonard was trying to be the first to win three in a row since Dwight Howard. Gobert was the other finalist during Monday night’s NBA Awards show.

Rounding out the All-Defensive first team were Leonard, the Los Angeles Clippers’ Chris Paul and the Houston Rockets’ Patrick Beverley.

Green led the NBA in steals (2.03 per game), and Gobert led the league in blocks (2.64).

Malcolm Brogdon was named Rookie of the Year, the first time in NBA history that a second-round pick won the award.

Brogdon celebrated the moment Monday night in New York with his mother, Bucks team owners Wes Edens and Jamie Dinan, and Bucks President Peter Feigin before heading up to the stage.

Brogdon averaged 10.2 points, 4.2 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 40.4 percent from 3-point range. His assists and steals per game were the most among rookies while his 3-point and free-throw percentages (86.5 percent) ranked second.

Brogdon and Dario Saric of the 76ers were unanimous selections to the All-Rookie first team.

The other first-team selections were Joel Embiid of the 76ers, Willy Hernangomez of the Knicks and Buddy Hield, who played with the Pelicans and Kings.

The third overall pick in the 2014 draft, Embiid, 22, missed the first two seasons of his career because of injuries.

Surgery for a broken bone in his right foot cost him two seasons, but Embiid averaged 20.2 points and 7.8 rebounds in 31 games last season. A knee injury cut short his season.

Saric was second in rookie scoring at 12.8 points per game and teamed with Embiid to be the first teammates to make the All-Rookie team since 2008.

Hield led all rookies in 3-pointers made (148), and Hernangomez led rookies in field-goal percentage (52.9) and double-doubles (11).

Before this season’s show in New York, the NBA’s awards were given at various times throughout the postseason.
