What’s not working around metro Atlanta

- JOHN THOMPSON FOR THE AJC

New item ... and fixed!

Atlanta

The newly-installed rainbow crosswalks at the intersection of 10th and Piedmont are a new landmark for the city, but a sharpeyed reader noticed they had already started to deteriorate.

“Can anyone at the AJC get some publicity going on the rainbow crosswalks broken ?” Patrick Benton asked.

He sent us a photo of a manhole cover that was out of alignment in the newly-painted crosswalks.

We heard back from the city that the manhole cover had been adjusted and fixed.

New item-Atlanta

Lynn Brown McKinney contacted us about some troublesome metal grates in Atlanta. Outside of potholes, pesky metal grates are one of the biggest complaints we receive from harried commuters.

“Three metal grates have been on Pine Tree Road for months. They are not even, and sometimes are not nailed down. They are destroying tires and are a traffic hazard,” she wrote.

We sent the item to the city and will keep you updated on a permanent solution.

Update-DeKalb County

In late July, we told you that Michael Terk hoped construction would soon be completed on one of the county’s busy roads.

“Several months ago, DeKalb county began repairs on the curbs on The By Way. The work was never completed. The county’s work has resulted in damage to the roadbed where weeds are beginning to grow,” Terk said.

He added that he had called the county and sent photos of the issue, but had not receiveda response from the county.

He said the damage has caused narrowing of an already dangerously narrow road.

We got a quick response back from county officials who said the project should be completed within two weeks, weather permitting.
