■ Louisville: Freshman forward Brian Bowen will not play for the Cardinals. The 6-foot-7 high school All-American from Saginaw, Mich., signed with Louisville in June but had been held out of practice and games since the school announced in September that it was being investigat­ed in a federal corruption probe of bribery in college basketball. Louisville will give Bowen permission to transfer. Louisville also said it parted ways with associate coach Kenny Johnson.

■ Vanderbilt: Coach Bryce Drew landed his second top recruit this month with Simisola Shittu signing his national letter of intent for the class of 2018. The 6-9 forward is a fivestar recruit, a consensus top 10 player and rated the nation’s eighth-best prospect by Rivals.com. Shittu joins guard Darius Garland and wing Aaron Nesmith in the recruiting class.

■ No. 5 Villanova 66, Western Kentucky 58: Jalen Brunson scored 18 points while Villanova finally got loose in transition after halftime, helping the Wildcats (4-0) beat the Hilltopper­s (2-2) in the opening round of the Battle 4 Atlantis in

the Bahamas. Darius Thompson scored 16 points for Western Kentucky, which shot 44 percent. The game was close until early in the second half, when Villanova ran off a 13-2 burst to push ahead by double figures. Villanova made 15 of 24 shots (63 percent) after halftime after shooting just 33 percent to lead 27-24 at the break. The Hilltopper­s fell to 1-13 in their past 14 games against ranked opponents.

■ Tennessee 78, No. 18 Purdue 75 (OT): Grant Williams scored all 22 of his points after halftime and hit the go-ahead shot with 14.5 seconds left in overtime to lift the Volunteers (3-0) over the Boilermake­rs (4-1) in the opening round of the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas. After P.J. Thompson missed a jumper for the lead, James Daniel hit two free throws with two seconds left to push the lead to three. Purdue had one more chance to tie, but Kyle Alexander intercepte­d Dakota Mathias’ long inbounds pass to end it. Carsen Edwards scored 21 to lead Purdue.
