Here’s an NFL mock draft, way too early

- By Connor Riley

As the NFL season comes to a close, some fans are already looking forward to the 2018 draft. And NFL teams looking for a quarterback will have options like Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield, who is shooting up mock draft boards.

Here is SEC Country’s predicted top 16 in the draft (selection order based on Super Bowl odds):

1. Cleveland Browns — Sam Darnold, USC QB: Darnold has hinted at staying, but if he comes out, the Browns should use a firstround pick on a quarterback who can play.

2. San Francisco 49ers — Saquon Barkley, Penn State RB: After adding Jimmy Garoppolo, the 49ers can add the best player in the draft.

3. New York Jets — Josh Rosen, UCLA QB: The Jets have shown some offensive promise this year with Josh McCown at quarterback, but Rosen is too talented to pass up.

4. Indianapolis Colts — Connor Williams, Texas T: For the Colts, it’s simple. They have to do a better job of protecting Andrew Luck (provided he can return in 2018). As long as Williams can stay healthy, he’ll be a top draft pick.

5. New York Giants — Josh Allen, Wyoming QB: Offensive tackle could be the pick here. But drafting Allen, a gifted physical specimen, allows the Giants to start planning for life after Eli Manning.

6. Miami Dolphins — Arden Key, LSU DE: While the Dolphins would love to get their hands on one of the top quarterbacks, they can take the most talented defensive player in the class in Key.

7. Arizona Cardinals — Mike McGlinchey, Notre Dame T: Like the Dolphins, Arizona would love to get a quarterback, but they’ll gladly take one of the top offensive linemen.

8. Washington Redskins — Minkah Fitzpatrick, Alabama S: Fitzpatrick will be compared to Florida State safety Derwin James. Fitzpatrick is having the better season.

9. Tampa Bay Buccaneers — Bradley Chubb, N.C. State DE: You can never have too many disruptive edge rushers.

10. Chicago Bears — Christian Kirk, Texas A&M WR: Kirk would be a perfect fit for the Bears, especially given their lack of offense.

11. Los Angeles Chargers — Trey Adams, Washington T: With an impressive young defense, this is an easy pick.

12. Detroit Lions — Derwin James, Florida State DB: The Lions could use a boost in their secondary. James projects as a plug-andplay secondary star.

13. Baltimore Ravens — Calvin Ridley, Alabama WR: While Joe Flacco hasn’t been great this year, he needs some receivers.

14. Oakland Raiders — Da’Ron Payne, Alabama DT: Payne is the latest mon- ster to come out of Alabama. He’ll eat up space in the mid- dle of the defense.

15. Denver Broncos — Quenton Nelson, Notre Dame G: Drafting Nelson will help in the run game and keep either Paxton Lynch or Trevor Siemian off his back.

16. Cincinnati Bengals — Roquan Smith, Georgia LB: Linebacker has been an area of concern. So they draft the best one in the class: Smith, who has turned Georgia into one of the best defenses in the country.
