Granderson signs 1-year deal with Jays
Outfielder Curtis Granderson and the Toronto Blue Jays finalized a $5 million, oneyear contract. The threetime All-Star split last season between the Mets and Dodgers, hitting .212 with 26 home runs in 527 plate appearances. A 14-year veteran who has also played for Detroit and the Yankees, Granderson is a career .252 hitter with 319 home runs and 865 RBIs.
Giants: Center fielder Austin Jackson agreed to a $6 million, two-year deal. Jackson, who turns 31 on Feb. 1, hit .318 with seven homers and 35 RBIs while limited to just 85 games because of injuries for Cleveland last season.
Astros: Pitcher Dean Deetz and former top prospect Jon Singleton were suspended after testing positive for banned drugs.
Noteworthy: Alex Rodriguez is moving into the ESPN booth for “Sunday Night Baseball,” taking over for Aaron Boone, who was hired to manage the Yankees.
ODDS AND ENDS
Auto racing: Danica Patrick is teaming with Premium Motorsports for next month’s Daytona 500, the final race of her NASCAR career.
Super Bowl media: Bob Costas won’t be working the Super Bowl for NBC next month. The longtime broadcaster was not included in the network’s lineup for the telecast from Minneapolis on Feb. 4, leading to speculation Costas’ comments about head injuries in football might have affected the decision. Dan Patrick and Liam McHugh will host the broadcast.
