Law enforcement, community show support for Locust Grove officer’s family.

Dozens of law enforcement officers from Henry, Spalding and Clayton counties lined the streets near a local hospital Wednesday afternoon to honor the wife and newborn son of slain police officer Chase Maddox.

Alex Maddox, the officer’s widow, and her baby were being released from Henry Piedmont Hospital. The baby boy was named Bodie Allen Maddox after his grandfather.

Officers and deputies from various agencies parked outside the hospital with their blue lights flashing to honor the Maddox family, and several drivers in the area pulled over and parked to pay their respects. The mother and baby later were escorted home with a law enforcement procession.

“It’s not just the officers behind him,” Monte McCollum said. “It’s the whole community behind him.”

Locust Grove police Officer Chase Maddox, 26, was shot and killed Friday while assisting Henry deputies serving an arrest warrant. His widow delivered the couple’s second son on Tuesday.

More than $100,000 was raised by the community to help the Maddox family.

Donations are still being accepted at any United Community Bank location. Ask that it be deposited into “The Maddox Family Fund.”

Donations of newborn and infant items are being collected at the public safety building. Food donations must be coordinated through police; to do that, contact Bernadette at 770-957-7055.
