Horse racing: Ronnie Franklin, who rode Spectacula­r Bid to victory in the 1979 Kentucky Derby and Preakness before their Triple Crown try was derailed in the Belmont, died at age 58. Franklin’s nephew, Walter Cullum, said the jockey died of lung cancer in Baltimore on Thursday.

NASCAR: Brad Keselowski overcame an early pit-road speeding penalty to win the rain-delayed NASCAR Xfinity Series race in Avondale, Ariz. Keselowski took the lead with 32 laps left and held off Justin Allgaier in a race delayed two hours because of rain.

MLB: Royals outfielder Jorge Bonifacio, 24, was suspended 80 games after testing positive for a performanc­eenhancing substance. He made his MLB debut last year, hitting .255 with 17 homers and 40 RBIs in 113 games.

Tennis: Third-ranked Garbine Muguruza was upset by American qualifier Sachia Vickery 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 Friday night at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, Calif. Vickery will face Naomi Osaka, who upset Aggie Radwanska after defeating Maria Sharapova in the first round.

Cycling: British rider Simon Yates took the ParisNice lead after claiming the queen stage of the weeklong race with a decisive move in the final climb. Belgium’s Dylan Teuns crossed eight seconds back and Spaniard Ion Izagirre completed the podium in the same time. Yates has an 11-second lead over Izagirre ahead of today.

Iditarod: French native Nicolas Petit regained the lead as front-runners passed the midway point in Alaska’s Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
