Lineup unveiled for Atlanta Film Fest

The 42nd Atlanta Film Festival will soon welcome filmmakers, movie buffs and talented actors to do what they do best: watch, interpret and then discuss the heck out of moving pictures.

Over 10 days, the annual event will present 58 feature length films and 150 short films from 56 countries at multiple venues across Atlanta.

Organizers say this year’s film festival is the most diverse in terms of the number of countries represented, and the largest in terms of the number of films.

Officials for the festival — which takes place April 13 to 22 — recently announced the complete lineup.

Included in the announcement was the closing night presentation: “Eighth Grade,” directed by Bo Burnham.

The film will be shown April 21 in the Plaza Theatre at 7:30 p.m.

The festival will kick off with “Blindspotting,” the feature film directorial debut from Carlos López Estrada.

The movie, in which two childhood best friends are forced to watch their old neighborhood become a trendy spot in the rapidly gentrifying Bay Area, stars Daveed Diggs.

Diggs co-wrote the film with his lifelong friend Rafael Casal.

Casal and Diggs will attend the April 13 red carpet screening, and Diggs will receive an ATLFF Innovator Award.

Select film titles announced by the festival include “Lean on Pete,” “Leave No Trace,” “A Prayer Before Dawn,” “RBG,” “Tully” and “Won’t You Be My Neighbor.”
