Metro population growth third-largest in U.S.
The Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell region is the ninth most populous metro area in the nation and it experienced the third-largest growth over the last two years, a census report shows.
Between 2016 and 2017, the Atlanta region grew by 89,013 people to a total of 5.8 million. Here are the top 10 most populous metro areas in the nation for 2017:

■ Georgia’s Lumpkin County ranked ninth nationally among counties for the largest percentage growth between 2016 and 2017 at 4.3 percent, or 1,345 people.
■ The Jefferson, Ga., area ranked second nationally among “micropolitan” areas for the largest percentage growth between 2016 and 2017 at 3.9 percent to a total of 67,519 people.
