Capers in Kennesaw fails check

- By Pamela Miller For the AJC

A Cobb County restaurant recently failed a routine health inspection. Capers in Kennesaw received a 51/U on March 28. Previous scores were 90/A on Dec. 9, 2016 and 85/B on June 17, 2015.

Employees not observing clean hand procedures were among the violations. The inspector observed an employee come from outside and proceed to touch food and perform other tasks without washing hands. Several employees washed hands for less than 10 seconds and touched faucet — recontaminating hands.

The inspector demonstrated to food employees and manger on how to wash hands properly.

Two of the handsinks were obstructed by a trash can and a box of sprouts next to the handsink.

■ Other violations included:

■ Cooked pasta next to crab meat, raw shrimp next to raw chicken and raw chicken was stored above raw steak inside the walk-in cooler and prep coolers. Food should be stored according to cook temperatures with raw chicken being on the bottom shelf.

■ Several foods inside the walk-in cooler and cold-holding units were left uncovered.

■ French fries slicer, stored plates and meat slicer were dirty with heavy food debris and accumulations.

■ Several foods and ambient temperature inside the reach in coolers and walk-in cooler were too hot.

Most restaurants that receive failing scores are reinspected within 10 days.
