RGIII will return to NFL with Ravens

Free-agent QB agrees to 1-year deal as Flacco’s backup.

Robert Griffin III is poised to resume his NFL career about 35 miles away from where he started it.

The former Washington Redskins quarterback has reached agreement on a oneyear contract with the Baltimore Ravens, who love the idea of having the 2011 Heisman Trophy winner backing up 10-year starter Joe Flacco.

“Obviously, his personality, he’s a confident guy. He’s a very talented quarterback,” coach John Harbaugh said of Griffin on Wednesday. “He’s had a lot of success in this league early on. We’re excited about it. We felt like we needed a No. 2 quarterback.”

Griffin’s last previous stop in an injury-riddled career came in 2016 with the Cleveland Browns. He started five games, winning only one of them.

General manager Ozzie Newsome said Griffin, 28, didn’t have far to travel before showing the Ravens he can still fling the ball.

“He still lives in the D.C./ Virginia area,” Newsome said. “We were bringing in some receivers and we asked him if he would come in and throw and go through a full workout for us. He took a physical. He did all of that.”

The terms were finalized late Tuesday night, and Newsome expects RG3 to sign the contract next week.

“I feel like we got a steal,” Harbaugh said. “I felt like (Griffin) really wanted to be here. He really wanted to be a Raven.”

Browns: Sam Darnold was quarterback No. 2 on the Browns’ visitation list this week. That doesn’t mean he won’t be their No. 1 choice.

Southern Cal’s gun-slinging QB visited with Cleveland’s coaching staff and executives on Wednesday as the team continues to evaluate players it may take with the first overall pick in this month’s NFL draft.

Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma’s dynamic Heisman Trophy winner, met with coach Hue Jackson, general manager John Dorsey and others at the Berea, Ohio, facility on Tuesday. The Browns will host UCLA’s Josh Rosen, Wyoming’s Josh Allen and Louisville’s Lamar Jackson in the coming days.

Jets: Wide receiver Quincy Enunwa signed his restricted free agent tender. A sixthround pick in the 2014 draft, Enunwa is entering his fourth season with the Jets. In 29 career games, the 6-foot-2, 225-pound Enunwa has 80 receptions for 1,172 yards with four touchdowns. His best year was 2016 with 58 catches for 857 yards. But he sat out the 2017 season due to a bulging disk in his neck.

The Jets also signed center Travis Swanson. A 2014 third-round pick of the Lions, Swanson started 42 games in Detroit. He made 11 starts in 2017 before being placed on injured reserve in December with a concussion.

Bears: Receiver Josh Bellamy signed his restricted free agent tender. Bellamy will return for a fifth season in Chicago after catching 24 passes for 376 yards and a touchdown last season.

Falcons: Kept one of the most versatile players on their defense by agreeing to a new one-year contract with safety/linebacker Kemal Ishmael, who was an unrestricted free agent.

Colts: Guard Jeremy Vujnovich signed the team’s one-year offer. The 6-foot-5, 300-pound lineman was an exclusive rights free agent after starting all 16 games at left guard in 2017.

Bills: Agreed to a oneyear contract with free agent defensive end Terrence Fede, who was used in backup and special teams roles during his four seasons with the Dolphins.
