Seafood restaurant takes dive

- By Pamela Miller

A Rockdale County seafood restaurant failed its most recent routine health inspection.

The Juicy Crab in Conyers scored 57/U on April 25. Previous scores were 92/A on Nov. 21, 2017, and 95/A on April 17, 2017.

According to the report, the person in charge was not knowledgeable of food allergens, managerial controls and health reporting requirements. Also, the employees weren’t educated on when they should wash their hands and other hand-washing guidelines. A hand-washing sink had no cleanser or drying towels and was obstructed from use with a sanitizer bucket inside it. An employee repeatedly touched their face mask and continued cooking food without washing hands.

Other violations included:

■ Possible cross contamination with raw fish stored above cooked crab legs in the seafood cooler, raw clams stored above cooked crawfish in the seafood cooler and cooked lobster stored directly on top of raw shrimp in the walk-in cooler.

■ A can opener blade was dirty with old food debris.

■ Cold held foods were above 41 degrees in the seafood cooler.

■ An employee rinsing raw oysters in the vegetable sink. The sink was cleaned and sanitized. The produce sink shall not be used to prep raw meats.

Most restaurants with failed scores are reinspected within 10 days.
