HENRY COUNTY Board approves purchase of ADA buses
The Henry County Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of three 14-passenger American with Disabilities Act buses with Federal Transit Administration funds for the Henry County Transit Department at its May 1 regular meeting.
The total cost for the StarTrans Senator II Shuttle buses that are equipped with wheelchair lifts is $154,589.76. Funding is available with the Transit Department’s Federal Transit Administration grant which requires a 20 percent local match, costing the county $30,917.95. Those funds will be allocated from the annual Transit Department’s budget.

HENRY COUNTY Fire department renews pact with Newton County
The Henry County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution authorizing the Henry County Fire Department to renew their Automatic/Mutual Aid Agreement with Newton County.
The action came at the board’s May 1 regular meeting. The respective counties will provide, subject to availability, fire department resources to each jurisdiction in the event of an emergency. Specifically, Henry County will send one fire engine, a minimum of two firefighters and one chief officer to aid in an emergency.

This choir is preparing for its summer tour of Italy to include a performance in the Sistine Chapel of Vatican City, with three concerts showcasing the talents of its 170 young members. The Tour Choir will preview its summer tour repertoire, with pieces prepared for mass in the Vatican, and the Children’s Choir will feature music of contemporary American composers. The Young Artists will take the Spivey Stage for the second time this season with three selections from Benjamin Britten’s classic song series “Friday Afternoons”: “A Tragic Story,” “Cuckoo!” and “Old Abram Brown” and close its season with an Earlene Rentz arrangement of the spiritual “I Want Two Wings.” Tickets: SpiveyHall.org.
