Local Pizzaiolo mixes up a mighty Neapolitan Storm

- By C. W. Cameron

A few weeks ago my friends and I went to check out the new pizza guy at The Local Pizzaiolo, Westside. The individual-sized pizzas, some with locally resourced ingredients, were wonderful.

But we were really taken by the Neapolitan Storm, their version of a Dark and Stormy. Apparently the concoction is mixed fresh every day for a large batch. Would it be possible to get the cocktail recipe? Thank you. — Ruth Perou, Atlanta

The cocktails at Local Pizzaiolo are batched, which means they’re made up in large quantities and then stored in kegs awaiting your order.

There are four — a Negroni, the Venetian spritz, a nitro espresso martini and this one, the Neapolitan storm.

For the Neapolitan Storm, they use Mount Gay rum and make a very easy simple syrup, mixing 1 part sugar with 1 part water and stirring until the sugar dissolves.

No heating required. Is there a recipe from a metro Atlanta restaurant you’d like to make at home? Tell us and we’ll try to get it. We’ll also test it and adapt it for the home kitchen. Because of volume, we can’t answer all inquiries. Send your request, your address and phone number to fromthemenu@gmail.com and put “From the menu of ” and the name of restaurant in the subject line.
