MLB Royals’ Soler out with broken foot

-

Royals outfielder Jorge Soler will miss at least six weeks after breaking a bone in his left foot while leaving the batter’s box in Kansas City’s series opener against Houston. Soler had provided some much-needed punch, batting .265 with nine homers and 28 RBIs.

Soler’s injury occurred in the seventh inning of the Royals’ 7-3 loss Friday night. He stumbled out of the batter’s box and crumpled to the ground before limping to the dugout, and an X-ray revealed a fracture in the first metatarsal on his left foot, just behind the big toe.

Also, Lucas Duda will begin a rehab assignment today with Omaha. The first baseman has been out since May 14 with plantar fasciitis.

Braves: Placed pitcher Mike Foltynewicz on the 10day disabled list with triceps tightness and reinstated Julio Teheran to take his place.

Giants: 3B Evan Longoria will have surgery on his broken left hand. Longoria was injured Thursday when he was hit in the hand by a pitch from Miami’s Dan Straily.
