Nats’ Doolittle will miss All-Star Game
The Nationals placed AllStar closer Sean Doolittle on the 10-day DL with left toe inflammation, optioned RHP Jefry Rodriguez to Triple-A and recalled RHPs Wander Suero and Austin Voth from Triple-A. Doolittle, 31, hasn’t pitched since July 6. He has a 1.45 ERA and converted 22 of 23 save opportunities this season but will miss Tuesday’s MLB All-Star Game at Nationals Park.
Cubs: The Cubs adjusted their rotation for this weekend’s series vs. the Padres, making it unlikely ace Jon Lester will pitch Tuesday in the All-Star Game. His next start was pushed to Sunday.
Astros: Optioned reliever Ken Giles to Triple-A Fresno, a night after he appeared to curse at manager A.J. Hinch when he was lifted from a game. It’s the second major outburst of the year for the right-hander, who punched himself in the face as he left the mound after a bad performance earlier in the season.
