City to review zoning ordinance rewrite

- PAMELA MILLER FOR THE AJC

The Brookhaven Zoning Ordinance Rewrite draft, now available for review and comment, will be presented to the Brookhaven Planning Commission during its work session 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, according to a press release.

The rewrite draft was officially unveiled to residents at public input and information meetings in June and July.

The purpose of the Zoning Ordinance Rewrite is to provide regulations to implement the land use policies identified in the City’s Comprehensive Plan, Character Area Study and other planning and policy documents. The document is the result of monthslong work by a steering committee that was made up of community residents and business owners appointed by the mayor and City Council.

“With public input into previous planning processes, we were able to gather input from residents and stakeholders to ensure their priorities and vision for Brookhaven were incorporated into the zoning revisions,” said Brookhaven Community Development Director Patrice Ruffin. “The completion of the Zoning Ordinance Rewrite fits perfectly with the recently announced moratorium on all land use petitions and land development permits on Buford Highway. This will ensure the visionresidents have forthis area is preserved until it can be enacted into law.”

The Zoning Ordinance Rewrite draft is now available through the city website (https://www. brookhavenga.gov/commdev/ page/zoning-ordinance-rewrite) and through the project website (http://www.brookhavenzoning. com/). The public meeting schedule is as follows:
