Q&A on the News
Q: What happened to the DeKalb County sheriff who allegedly exposed himself in Piedmont Park last year? —Eddie Webster, Douglasville
A: DeKalb County Sheriff Jeffrey Mann has appealed the revocation of his enforcement certification and is waiting for his state hearing to be scheduled, Katie Byrd, spokeswoman for the Georgia Attorney General’s Office, told Q&A on the News in an email.
The AJC previously reported that Mann, who also ran from an Atlanta police officer the night of the incident, pleaded guilty to charges of obstruction and prohibited conduct in July 2017. The Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) voted in September 2017 to revoke Mann’s certification as a law enforcement officer, a decision Mann appealed earlier this year, according to the AJC.
POST Deputy Executive Director Ryan Powell told Q&A on the News last week that the council could not reach an agreement with Mann, meaning his appeal will move to the Attorney General’s office. Byrd said last week that Mann’s case will be heard by an administrative law judge with the Office of State Administrative Hearings; no timeline has been set.
An enforcement certification is needed to hold office, according to POST. Attorney Noah Pines, who has represented Mann, did not respond to messages for comment.
