Pacing, lane closures for Ga. 400, I-285 junction

- DAVID IBATA FOR THE AJC

Weather permitting, Ga. 400 motorists at the Perimeter top end in North Fulton and DeKalb counties can expect overnight “traffic pacing” through Friday, with speeds slowed by police to 15 mph for the continuing reconstruction of the Ga. 400/I-285 interchange, the Georgia Department of Transportation says.

Pacing will occur from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday, Oct. 19, between Lenox and Northridge roads, GDOT says. It will affect all northbound and southbound traffic, and while it’s going on, police will temporarily restrict drivers from entering northbound Ga. 400 from the Glenridge Connector, I-285 and Hammond Drive, and southbound Ga. 400 from Abernathy Road.

Meanwhile, on eastbound I-285, contractors will close three left lanes from Ga. 400 to Chamblee Dunwoody Road from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday through Friday, and two right lanes from Ga. 400 to Ashford Dunwoody Road the same hours Friday and Saturday, Oct. 20. The lanes will be reduced from 12 to 11 feet wide to allow the construction of collector-distributor lanes.

The ramp from eastbound I-285 to northbound Ga. 400 will be closed overnights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday, and then continuously from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, for bridge work. The recommended detour is to take Ga. 400 south to Glenridge Drive, exit and re-enter Ga. 400 heading north.
