Alpharetta and Johns Creek residents will have a chance to comment on the proposed widening of Haynes Bridge Road at two public input meetings in November.

Both meetings are scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. The first, on Nov. 13 will be held at Haynes Bridge Middle School, 10665 Haynes Bridge, Alpharetta; and the second, on Nov. 14 at Park Place, 3125 Old Alabama Road, Johns Creek.

The $5 million undertaking, a joint project by Alpharetta and Johns Creek, will be funded by the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax approved by Fulton County voters in November, 2016.

Plans call for widening the twolane section of Haynes Bridge to four vehicle lanes, with accommodations for pedestrians and bicycles, from Old Alabama to Mansell roads. To view concept designs and provide input online: https://bit.ly/2zbyXsl Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The event, open to the public, is set for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Cherokee County Conference Center, 1130 Bluffs Parkway, Canton.

The GBI reports 144 youths have taken their own lives in Georgia in the last three years. For every young person who dies by suicide, national statistics indicate 25 others tried to take their lives, meaning about 3,600 other youths attempted suicide during that period, school district officials said.

“In response, the GBI and Child Fatality Review are starting a conversation, through this summit and others being held across the state, to talk about what can be done to prevent suicides in Georgia,” the district said as it announced the meeting.
