Gwinnett Mexican restaurant fails probe

A Gwinnett County Mexican restaurant failed a recent health inspection. Taqueria Oaxaquena De La Guelaguetz­a in Tucker scored 58/U on Nov. 9. Previous scores were 96/A on June 18, 2018 and 91/A on Oct. 27, 2017.

According to the report, the number and scope of violations showed the manager needed training in food safety procedures. Among the violations:

■ The only handwashin­g sink was blocked by a stool, and a container of flour and empty containers were stored inside the sink.

■ An employee handled raw tripe then prepared food and handled clean utensils without washing hands. Also another employee cleaned tables then used the same gloves to handle shredded cheese.

■ An employee washed and rinsed plates but didn’t sanitize them before storing them as cleaned.

■Chicken, pork, cow tongue, barbacoa and carnitas were stored in a cooler underneath the stove was at temperatur­es above 41 degrees.

■ Two unlabeled containers contained bleach and a degreaser.

■ Marinated cooked beef was cooling at room temperatur­e on top of a prep table.

■ Three containers of refried beans, and a box of guayabas ( fruit) stored on the floor underneath warewashin­g sink.

Most restaurant­s with failed scores are reinspecte­d within 10 days.
