Council approves rezoning

Kennesaw’s downtown has expanded by around 8.5 acres.

Three rezonings were approved Nov. 19 by the Kennesaw City Council — all for properties now in the Central Business District and all by Core Property Capital (CPC).

The sites are about 6.8 acres at 2555 N. Cobb Parkway from City Office/Institutional, around 1.2 acres at 2570 N. Cobb Parkway from City Highway General Business and almost a half-acre at 2675 Summers St. from City General Commercial.

Atlanta-based CPC proposes to develop these properties as mixed-use development — all a part of 15 acres also approved by the Council on Nov. 19.

On 11 acres in Phase I, the project will include “up to 325 Class A multifamily units; 15,000 square feet of restaurant/retail and 50 upscale townhomes,” according to a CPC statement.

Amenities will be “state-ofthe-art fitness facilities, pool and clubhouse as well as connectivity within the overall development,” CPC officials add.

The commercial will be “a dynamic mix of restaurants and retail shops, creating an urban feel and walkability to downtown.”

In addition to the planned commercial, the adjacent redevelopment by Sanctuary Development will include a brewery and a mix of residential and commercial uses.

There will be a realignment of Burrell Court and Keene Street to create a new downtown city block with walkable amenities and direct access to downtown.

CPC’s proposed development will begin in early 2019.
