Redskins claim ex-Niners LB Foster

-

Washington claimed Reuben Foster off waivers after the 49ers released the linebacker following a domes- tic violence arrest, though it’s unclear if or when he’ll suit up for them.

“The Redskins fully understand the severity of the recent allegations made against Reuben,” senior VP of player personnel Doug Williams said. “If true, you can be sure these allegations are nothing our organization would ever condone . ... Reuben will have to go through numerous steps including the full legal process, an investigation and potential discipline from the NFL ... before he will ever have the oppor- tunity to wear the burgundy and gold as a player.”

The NFL put Foster on the Commissioner Exempt list, and he can’t practice or attend games while the league continues to review his situation.

Chargers: Coach Anthony Lynn received some slightly good news when it was announced running back Melvin Gordon is week to week after he sprained the medial collateral ligament in his right knee during a 45-10 win over the Cardinals.

Lynn said the fourth-year running back is “highly doubtful” for this week’s key AFC showdown at Pittsburgh, but he is hopeful of returning before the end of the regular season.

Jaguars: The NFL suspended running back Leonard Fournette one game without pay for leaving the sideline, running across the field and throwing punches at Bills defensive end Shaq Lawson on Sunday.

Late Monday: Deshaun Watson threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score as the host Texans set a franchise record with their eighth straight victory, 34-17 over the Titans. Demaryius Thomas scored his first two touchdowns with Houston, and Lamar Miller ran for 162 yards, including a 97-yard TD.
