City sets open house on His­toric Gate­way project

Roswell res­i­dents can get an up­date on the city’s His­toric Gate­way project for At­lanta Street (Ga. 9) at an open house sched­uled for Tues­day by the Roswell Depart­ment of Trans­porta­tion.

The open house is set for noon to 7 p.m. in the Coun­cil Cham­bers of City Hall, 38 Hill St. Staff will be on hand all day to an­swer ques­tions and re­view plans, maps and ren­der­ings. They also can pro­vide in­for­ma­tion about the project’s his­tory and fu­ture.

Re­versible lanes along At­lanta Street are to be re­placed with a four-lane “com­plete street” with multi-lane round­abouts. Roswell is work­ing with the Ge­or­gia Depart­ment of Trans­porta­tion; the city is re­spon­si­ble for en­gi­neer­ing, while the state will han­dle land ac­qui­si­tions, ease­ments and con­struc­tion, of­fi­cials said.

“As of late 2018, Ge­or­gia DOT is in the be­gin­ning stages of right-ofway ac­qui­si­tion, which is ex­pected to take 24 months,” ac­cord­ing to a city an­nounce­ment. “Con­struc­tion is sched­uled to be­gin in 2021, pro­vided there is ad­e­quate state fund­ing.”

Work will be funded by the Trans­porta­tion Spe­cial Purpose Lo­cal Op­tionSales Tax ap­proved by Ful­ton County vot­ers out­side At­lanta in Novem­ber, 2016.
