Covington Thai grill falls short

- By Pamela Miller

A Thai restaurant in Newton County failed a recent health inspection. Bangkok Grill in Covington scored 48/U on Tuesday. Previous scores were 86/B on June 29, 2018, and 85/B on Dec. 14, 2017.

According to the report, two employees who had started work two weeks prior still had no signed employee health verification form. Other violations included:

■ Foods were stored with a danger of cross-contamination. Partially cooked chicken was stored behind raw beef and pork. Raw chicken satay was stored over green beans; green beans stored directly on top of and next to plastic-wrapped raw chicken.

■ An employee handled soiled equipment with clean gloves and then handled a bowl of cooked tofu.

■ Partially cooked spicy basil chicken did not reach a fully cooked temperature of 165 degrees. The facility does not have written procedures for the partial cooking of chicken.

■ Cooked rice was stored in the microwave to be reheated but was stored at 107 degrees. Hot foods must be at 135 degrees or higher.

■ Fluid lighters were stored on shelving above plates and containers of food. Poisonous or toxic materials must be stored so they cannot contaminate food, equipment, utensils, linens and single-service articles.

■ Foods were cooling in a prep cooler that was not properly functioning.

■ Ants were crawling on boxes of coconut milk.

Most restaurants with failed scores are reinspected within 10 days.
