Cobb gets federal grant for Bomb Disposal Unit

Cobb County officials have accepted a $58,488 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for a Bomb Disposal Unit.

This federal funding is provided through the Georgia Emergency Management Agency “to enhance capabiliti­es to prevent, protect against, respond to and recover from terrorist attacks, major disasters and other emergencie­s in accordance with the goals and objectives of the State Strategic Plan.”

The grant will be used to buy one Nano 150 X-Ray system — with a charger and backpack — and other Bomb Unit equipment and tools by the Cobb County Police Department. No local match is required.

The grant has been accepted by the Cobb County Board of Commission­ers.
