2 Hotel attacked: An upscale hotel complex in Nairobi, Kenya, came under attack on Tuesday, with a blast and heavy gunfire. Police called it the latest terror attack in a country that has seen several deadly attacks during recent years. The al-Shabab extremist group based in neighboring Somalia claimed responsibility and said its members were still fighting inside.
3 SEC hacking: Two Ukrainian men have been charged with hacking into computers of the Securities and Exchange Commission to steal quarterly and annual reports of publicly traded companies before their public release. An indictment released Tuesday alleges Artem Radchenko and Oleksandr Ieremenko sold the information and used it to make stock trades in 2016 and 2017. Both men are fugitives.
4 Inmates return: Three months after Hurricane Michael devastated a large swath of Florida’s Panhandle, inmates and staff members are returning to the Bay County Correctional and Rehabilitation Facility. The storm pulled off most of the roof, and left the facility without water, sewer and phone service.
5 $300 million gift: Facebook announced it will commit $300 million to journalism projects to help local outlets strengthen their newsgathering operations and build their readership and subscription models. Facebook’s financial commitment comes a year after Google pledged the same dollar amount.
