Q: I see a lot of dogs riding in cars sitting in the lap of the driver, standing with their head out the window, and on one occasion, lying on the dashboard. Does Georgia have a law regarding animal restraints while riding in cars? RANDY BYNUM, DOUGLASVILLE

A: There is no statewide law, but some local jurisdictions might have a county ordinance, Christina Hill, a spokeswoman for the Atlanta Humane Society, told Q&A on the News.

“It is possible that some local areas forbid a dog in the back of a pickup truck, but to our knowledge, we’ve never heard of anything forbidding an animal on someone’s lap within animal law,” Hill wrote in an email.

Municode.com is one resource to find a specific ordinance in a city or county, she noted.

Q: After watching the Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker life story on TV, what happened to the Christian amusement park they opened on the North Carolina and South Carolina lines? GLADYS WOOD, POWDER SPRINGS

A: MorningStar Ministries owns and uses the former Heritage USA property in Fort Mill, S.C., according to a 2018 article in The Charlotte Observer. MorningStar, founded by Rick Joyner, bought 52 acres of the property used by the Bakkers’ ministry, PTL, for $1.6 million in 2004, the paper reported.

“It uses the hotel PTL did finish, the Heritage Grand, as headquarters for several of its endeavors, including MorningStar Fellowship Church, MorningStar University, a K-12 school, a publishing house and a conference center,” the story noted.
