Q&A on the News

Q: It seems TV weatherpersons are more diligent in reporting dew point. I see the relevancy to the average person in the reporting of temperatures, wind speed, precipitation amounts, humidity and even the wind chill, but dew point? I read where the measurement of dew point is related to humidity. A higher dew point means there is more moisture in the air, and with that being the case, wouldn’t the reporting of humidity tell the average viewer what they need to know? So why report the dew point?

WAYNE BECK, CEDARTOWN

A: The dew point is a more precise measure of the moisture in the air, Glenn Burns, chief meteorologist for WSB-TV Channel 2 Action News, told Q&A on the News.

“It shows when fog would be more likely. It shows how low the air temperature can go,” he wrote. “Humidity is not a precise measure of moisture.”

Q: What tech company was in the building that now houses SCAD Atlanta? When did they leave?

FRANK MANFRE, SUGAR HILL

A: The Midtown building was the headquarters for iXL Enterprises, an Internet services and consulting company. The 312,000-square-foot building at 1600 Peachtree St. was built in 1956 and also served as offices for Equifax, according to past media reports.

SCAD moved there in 2004, according to SCAD’s website.
